Dr. Jeffrey Reed Inspired by Thomas Edison

Originally from San Jose, California, I attended the University of California, Davis, where I was interested in Emergency medicine. While enrolled in college and working as an Emergency Medical Technician in California. I became inspired by a quote from Thomas Edison, which reads:

The doctor of the future will give no medicine but will interest his patients in the care of the human frame, in diet and in the cause and prevention of disease.

Rarely in our lives do words have the potential to change everything. For me, this quotation along with the fact that in my younger years I had been helped with my own severe headaches by a chiropractor caused a paradigm shift from an emphasis on emergency medicine to alternative medicine that changed the course of my life.

In 1989, I enrolled in Palmer Chiropractic College in San Jose, California and began my career as the doctor I envisioned in Thomas Edison’s quote. Chiropractic care gives patients the ability to allow their bodies to heal without the use of drugs and surgery. If healing can be accomplished in a conservative manner without the use of drugs and surgery by allowing the bodies full potential to heal itself, shouldn’t this be the first method we utilize?

Chiropractic is a hands-on therapy based on the theory that misalignments in the spine may cause many medical disorders (especially disorders of the nervous and musculoskeletal systems). Chiropractic care is the science of locating these spinal malfunctions and the art of correcting them.

In addition, I am on the Eastern Connecticut Board of football and baseball officials which allows me to stay involved with keeping kids safe in local sports. My two young children actively participate in football, basketball, and baseball. Parents with active children know, these activities keep the calendar full and the family very active in the community.

Prevention or Relief: Chiropractic Works for Everyone

When it comes to chiropractic care everyone is different. Many people begin chiropractic treatments for pain relief and choose to continue chiropractic care after the pain is gone because they realize how much better the feel by staying well aligned. I frequently tell patients that it is up to them whether or not they want to continue preventive care and that their prognosis improves by periodically maintaining their alignment. Personally, I find that if I don’t maintain my own alignment every 4-6 week, I start to fall apart with the little back pains becoming bigger back pains. My personal goal is to prevent the pain and function at my best. I prevent the little pains from worsening by getting aligned every four to six weeks and exercising regularly. We have many patient’s that only need re-aligning two times per year and others that need a realignment more often. When a patient expresses interest in prevention, our twenty years of experience can help determine the frequency required to maintain your health. Everyone is different and our number one goal is to maintain your pain free lifestyle.
